Happy Endings!

Here are some more animals who have been adopted through Cherished Companions. We love them all and wish them well!

Lil' Bear

Lil' Bear was rescued out of a puppy mill situation in November, 2005. He was very shy at first, but quickly started following me around the house and wanted to be my shadow. He is very laid back and low key for a schipperke. At first nervous about being picked up, once he feels safe he loves to be carried and petted. If you have food, you have Bear's complete and undivided attention! He is great with other dogs, is non-confrontational with cats, and just has a very non-chalant submissive demeanor. We just love this lil' guy. At the time of his adoption, he was about three years old, and weighed about 17 pounds.

Congratulations to Veronique and Bob in CT - a perfect match!
Bear also has a fur sister named Kona Bear.

Judy

We fostered Judy through the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society. She was adopted in March, 2004 and now lives with a great family in the country near Herkimer, NY.

Judy loves to run (as you can see!) and her new mom takes her jogging. Judy's new family also includes other dogs so she can romp & play.

Tiger & Thumbelina

Tiger & Thumbelina came in together, and happily we were able to see them be adopted together! Thumbelina was very shy and attached to Tiger, we know she's very happy that her new family was able to open their hearts to both of them at once. They now live in Rensselaer, NY.

Jensen

Congratulations to Dan & Brenda in North Greenbush for adopting Jensen!

Jensen moved in with us on 10/11/03. He came in as a stray and was terrified at the shelter, so he came into foster with us on 10/11/03. It was quite apparent that he had been abused, and he was very traumatized. With lots of patience, love and Healing Touch he blossomed into the fun-loving, playful puppy he should be!

Tigger

Tigger was in foster care for a few months and patiently waited for his new forever home. He became very ill at the shelter and had to be nursed back to life; it was a difficult week or two when he first moved in with us. Tigger loved to sit in the window, and to eat! Tigger was front-paw declawed, so he is now an indoor-only cat with his new family in North Greenbush. Congratulations!

Niles

UPDATE: After 10 months of healing and waiting, Niles has finally found his forever home. Congratulations to Al in Ravena!
It was worth the long wait for Niles to find you!

We are fostering Niles through the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society. Niles is a chocolate lab / pit bull mix, and displays the best of both breeds! He has overcome many challenges including lyme disease, a dislocated hip, a ligament injury, and apparent abuse. But look at him now! He is trying to sniff out a perfect new home.

Niles loves to run! If given the choice he would love to be outside all day long. He would do best in a home with a big fenced yard. He also loves riding in the car and has excellent manners riding around town. He is not much on toys but does love to snuggle on the sofa.

Niles is an absolute love bug. He loves kisses, and to give them in return. He is excellent with children. He is so appreciative of every kind word, glance, or pat on the head. He is housebroken, and is about 2-1/2 years old. He will be a great dog for some lucky family!

Niles is a big, strong boy, and will need a strict owner to enforce the obedience he has learned. He has had basic training but will only listen if he knows you mean it and respects you as being in charge. We recommend that his new owner sign up for an obedience class to solidify these roles. He also seems to respect male handlers more than women. But once you have his respect he is very obedient and listens well. Won't you please consider giving Niles the home he's been dreaming of? Call the shelter, or Please contact us to meet him. You won't be disappointed!

Puppies

UPDATE: All the puppies have now been adopted into loving homes. If you are looking for a puppy, please check out PetFinder (you can use the search box at the bottom of this page to search by breed & location). Or feel free to contact us and we'll help you find the one you're looking for.

We have a litter of puppies looking for new homes. Their mom (who we named Alexis) was brought into the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society when she was pregnant - she was a stray. On Mother's Day (2003) when we met her she was so pregnant - how could we resist an expectant mother on Mother's Day? Home she came and her puppies were born in our barn.

As you can see, Alexis is a pit bull, but dad didn't leave a note, so we aren't sure if the puppies are full pit or mixes. Please click here to see the puppies and read a little more about each of them.

Kodi

Introducing... Kodi!

Kodi was adopted from MHRHS when he was a puppy, but was just brought back recently because he had been hit by a car - his owners couldn't afford the medical treatment he needed. Kodi's hip joint was badly injured and it required extensive surgery, which was generously arranged through a local vet by a MHRHS volunteer. Kodi is doing well - the fur is growing back over the scar and he is starting to use his leg again. According to the vet, Kodi should fully recover and will not have a permanent limp.

Kodi has a beautiful, sweet temperament. He is incredibly loving and affectionate with both adults and children. He is neutered, housebroken and up to date on all his shots. He is only about 8 - 9 months old, and deserves a new family that will commit to him for the rest of his life.

Kodi enjoys running around off leash and is very playful. He would love a new home with a big fenced yard! He is very attentive to his person when out for walks - he does not pull on the leash. For some reason, he loves chewing on pine tree branches! But when he's left alone in the house he is quiet and is not destructive to furniture, etc. He does love to shred paper though, so I wouldn't leave any of that laying around!

Kodi needs socialization - he is very curious about other dogs and cats. He is a little leary of men, but is learning that they're quite nice. :) He is also starting to learn some basic obedience commands now that he is more physically comfortable. Please contact us to arrange a meeting with Kodi. He loves company!

Julie

Please meet Julie!

UPDATE: Julie was able to be transferred to Noah's Kingdom and has since been adopted through them. This enabled us to foster another ill cat in need. Thank you to the volunteers at Noah's Kingdom!
An elderly person who could no longer care for her surrendered her to MHRHS. Unfortunately, when she was brought in she was pregnant. She had a litter of kittens and now finds herself up for adoption! Julie is affectionate and loving. She enjoys being brushed even though she has short hair. Julie is only about a year old, and is still quite playful. She also loves cat treats! Julie gets along well with other cats after a brief adjustment period. Her adoption fee includes all her shots and her spay, to ensure she never has to have kittens again. Please contact us to meet her.

Sophia

UPDATE: Julie was able to be transferred to Noah's Kingdom and has since been adopted through them. This enabled us to foster another ill cat in need. Thank you to the volunteers at Noah's Kingdom!
It is our pleasure to introduce you to Sophia. She was brought into MHRHS as a stray but her previous owners could not be located. Sophia is a very dignified, intriguing lady cat. She is missing the tip of one of her ears, but this only adds to her mysterious allure. Sophia has the softest fur you have ever felt on a cat - it feels like rabbit fur! And she has the most beautiful tail, which she loves to wrap around herself. Sophia is litterbox trained and gets along well with other cats. She is dreaming of a new home where she will get the respect and love that she deserves. If you think you might have the right home for Sophia, please contact us to meet her.
